The Westmonte Recreation Center project is the complete replacement of a park that was built in the early 1970s, and originally served as a private club for the residents of the Spring Oaks neighborhood. In 1978, the park was expanded to include summer camp programs and activities, and in 1988 it received its most notable upgrade: a therapeutic pool. Nearly 50 years of wear and tear made it necessary for the entire park to be demolished and reconstructed. The City of Altamonte Springs selected The Collage Companies to construct this new state-of-the art facility incorporating modern architecture with upgraded amenities that include the following:
The Community Building: The largest of its kind for a central Florida park… The Community Building hosts a dramatic oversized covered entry standing more than 30 feet tall with massive columns wrapped in cast-stone and faux wood panels. The visitors enter the building into an enormous gathering area for the residents of Altamonte Springs. The floors are a mixture of polished concrete and luxury vinyl tile. In addition to supporting the offices and back-of-house areas… the building hosts a main multi-purpose room where the park staff will manage summer programs for children, exercise classes for the community as well as teaching events.
Outdoor Pool and Deck: The highlight of the Westmonte Park would have to be the Outdoor Pool and Deck. The new 8,150 square foot swimming pool boasts three distinct areas. The first is an interactive children’s zone complete with built-in water toys featuring two “aqua cannons”, a “water castle”, a “tipping coco palm”, a “fire hydrant” as well as the traditional water “dazzlers” and “bubblers”. The second zone is for the folks who just want to relax and enjoy the water by floating or participating in “water aerobics”. The third zone is for the competitive swimmer and boasts “state-certified” 25-yard competitive racing lanes. Surrounding this amazing pool is a 20,000 square foot deck area complete with built-in shade structures and plenty of room to enjoy the Florida sun.
Indoor Therapeutic Pool: Westmonte Park has a proud tradition of supporting those residents in need of special therapeutic treatment for their physical needs. A separate building was constructed to house the 1,200 square foot therapeutic pool equipped with a full-size handicapped ramp and a state-of-the art lift. The building is constructed with 20 ceilings and incorporates fabric baffles placed above the pool to add warmth to the space. The exposed air conditioning ducts are constructed of fabric and keep the building cool and quiet for the guests.
Pool Service Building: The swimming pools have their own building at Westmonte Park. The building houses all the necessary pool equipment and filtering systems for these two pools. The pools are kept clean using a sophisticated brine water filtration system.
Site Amenities: Westmonte Park is equipped with plenty of amenities for the residents of Altamonte Springs. These amenities include two separate playgrounds with shade structures; A cast-in-place concrete “serpentine wall” that separates the two playgrounds and provides a place for parents, grandparents, and friends to sit while watching the children play; 100 Person pavilion; 2 Tennis courts; 3 Pickleball courts; Basketball courts; 4 Bocce courts; a Multi-purpose field; and trails and plenty of park benches to rest while enjoying time in the park.
