A new chapter begins in Tangelo Park!

The Collage Companies joined Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings, District 6 Commissioner Michael Scott and community leaders to celebrate the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the new Tangelo Park Community Action Center. As the project’s construction partner, The Collage Companies is proud to have helped transform Orange County’s vision into a modern, multigenerational facility designed to serve Tangelo Park residents for decades to come.

A New Community Resource for Generations to Come

Located at 5160 Pueblo Street, the nearly 10,000-square-foot Tangelo Park Community Action Center is Orange County’s ninth county-run Community Action Center, expanding access to essential services, educational programs and recreational opportunities. The facility features a computer lab, indoor basketball court, outdoor swimming pool and a multipurpose room accommodating more than 300 people. Beyond its physical amenities, the center will support youth mentoring, job placement assistance, life skills development and other programs designed to meet the needs of children, families and seniors.

Orange County’s Community Action Centers collectively serve more than 250,000 residents annually, making these facilities an important part of the County’s commitment to strengthening neighborhoods.

“Tangelo Park has a proud history, and this center is an investment in its future. We want to give residents of all ages a place to learn, connect, and take advantage of new opportunities. We’re proud to build on this community’s legacy and create a resource that will serve families for years to come.”

Building on Harris Rosen’s Legacy

The new Tangelo Park Community Action Center builds upon a remarkable history of community investment, including the lasting legacy of philanthropist Harris Rosen. In 1993, Rosen joined neighborhood leaders in establishing the Tangelo Park Program, providing free preschool opportunities for young children and college or vocational scholarships for graduating high school seniors. His commitment to education and opportunity helped transform the future of this historic community.

Rosen also supported the former Tangelo Park YMCA, which became an important gathering place for neighborhood families. The new Community Action Center carries that legacy forward, incorporating renovations to the existing gymnasium alongside new construction that expands recreational, educational and community services. This latest investment by Orange County represents another chapter in Tangelo Park’s story, creating new opportunities for generations to come.

Construction with a Community Purpose

For The Collage Companies, the project represents the kind of work that defines its mission: building spaces that strengthen the foundation and fabric of communities. Working in partnership with Orange County, the design team led by KMF Architects and dedicated trade partners, Collage helped deliver a facility that thoughtfully connects new construction with the existing building. The project required careful planning to create a cohesive, welcoming environment that meets the needs of residents of all ages.

“At Collage, we believe the projects we build should strengthen the foundation and fabric of our communities,” said Rob Maphis, President of The Collage Companies. “The Tangelo Park Community Action Center is a perfect example of that mission in action. Together with Orange County and our project partners, we’ve created more than a building. We’ve helped deliver a place where children can discover new opportunities, families can connect and generations of neighbors can come together. We’re proud to turn this facility over to the community and excited to see its impact for years to come.”

Collage’s commitment to Tangelo Park also extended beyond construction. In February 2025, the company partnered with Orange County to host a community job fair, connecting local residents with construction trade partners and employment opportunities associated with the project.

Celebrating Community Through Public Art

The investment in Tangelo Park continues beyond the grand opening. Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the Public Art Review Board, has announced a call for artists to create artwork for the newly renovated Tangelo Park Community Center. The initiative seeks artwork that reflects the history, character and values of Tangelo Park, a historically Black community with a proud heritage. Professional artists and artist teams are invited to apply through November 4, 2026.

From groundbreaking to grand opening, the Tangelo Park Community Center reflects the power of partnership and a shared commitment to strengthening the fabric and foundation of our community. The Collage Companies is grateful to Orange County, KMF Architects, its trade partners and the Tangelo Park community for the opportunity to bring this important project to life and create a space that will serve generations to come.
