Orlando International Airport – The Keys News & Gifts
Orlando, FL
The Keys News and Gifts project is a “high-end” retail store located in Airside One at the Orlando International Airport. This project was the complete renovation of an existing retail store that was built by The COLLAGE Companies back in 1996. This 3,350 sq. ft. store was completed in 75 days with crews working two shifts to accommodate the special constraints placed on contractors at OIA with all demolition, deliveries and shutdowns were performed during the second shift. This project is located in a secure area of the airport and all tradesmen were required to be badged by GOAA. All deliveries were made on the AOA (Airport Operating Area), which is a top-level secure area at OIA and specially badged personnel escorted each delivery to the gate area. The COLLAGE Companies worked “hand-in-hand” with the architect and owner to develop a creative design while upholding the owners’ strict budget. The result was a retail space themed after a typical Florida swamp with a focus on the Florida alligator. The alligator finds itself cast into a stunning epoxy based terrazzo floor with glass chips with live alligators, provided by Gatorland, in two large tanks located at each side of the entrance to the store.
