Safety Training and Evaluation in The Construction Industry
STEP stands for Safety Training Evaluation Process. Founded in 1989 by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) as a safety benchmarking and improvement tool, there are both national and local programs. STEP has evolved into a world-class safety management system that dramatically improves safety performance among participants regardless of company size or type of work. Participating ABC member firms measure their safety processes and policies on 25 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce jobsite incidents. Companies receive a recognition level of Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Participant based on this data. The Central Florida Chapter of ABC published the results of their 2021 findings in the October edition of Building Central Florida.
The Collage Companies is honored to have been awarded the highest STEP status, Diamond. Rob Maphis, President of The Collage Companies, “Safety at Collage starts early in planning and development, and continues throughout the building process. We work closely with our trade partners to assure a safe workplace for the construction team, project visitors and public alike. We are very proud of our proactive safety and security program that includes third-party oversight, making sure that safety awareness remains core to our culture.”
Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) is the largest commercial construction trade association in Florida with five chapters across the state, and a chapter network that covers every state in the union. The Central Florida Chapter ABC (CFC ABC) represents companies doing business in the five counties of Orange, Lake, Volusia, Seminole and Osceola.
